ANS Standards Committee Responds to Inquiry on Criticality Accident Alarm System Standard [ANSI/ANS-8.3-1997 (R2017)]

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) Standards Committee occasionally receives inquiries on standards requesting clarification. Inquiries are addressed in accordance with the Policy on Developing Responses to Inquiries about Standards Requirements, Recommendations, and Permissions. While the policy is specific to American National Standards (i.e., standards that are considered current by the American National Standards Institute), the Standards Committee will attempt to provide responses to historical or withdrawn standards (those no longer considered current American National Standards), as many continue to be used. Responses provided by the Standards Committee cannot supplement or alter the standard and must be applicable for generic application. Policy directs that the original authors of the text in question be contacted if possible to ensure that the response reflects the intent of the standard as written. Alternate options for developing a response can be used when the original authors are not available.
