Washington State Gov. Asks Navy for More Thorough Noise Analysis

Gov. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) responded to the U.S. Navy's draft EIS regarding its proposal to expand operations at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island by requesting "a more thorough sound study using actual acoustic measuring devices," along with a strategy for mitigating noise impacts. Released last year, the DEIS predicts increased noise for thousands of Island, County, Wash., residents, but does not recognize any adverse impacts on their health (see Nov. 2016 NRR, p. 107).
