In routine rhinoplasty, postoperative splinting of the nose is an essential part of the treatment. Any change of dressing or displacement of the nasal splint may result in inefficient healing and may cause discomfort for the patient. Particularly with plaster or gypsum splints, the sides of the splint may come into contact with the patient's eyes, thereby spreading plaster powder and increasing the risk of conjunctivitis. Movement of the splint can also affect the aesthetic result of the rhinoplasty.
