It is shown that, within the framework of a linear nonlocal continual theory of elasticity taking into account the relationship between the strain fields and local displacements of masses, it is possible to describe the process of propagation of antiplane surface shear waves (SH waves) in an isotropic half space. These surface SH waves are not predicted by the classical theory of elasticity. The indicated surface waves may propagate in the half space if the problem is posed within the framework of elasticity theory, which takes into account the tensor character of the local displacements of masses. The stress-strain state of this continuum is characterized by the strain tensor and the tensor of induced mass density, which are independent quantities.
