By the methods of cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, it is shown that the oxidation of electrodes made of an AB(2) -type zirconium alloy in air reduces the activation period and increases the electrochemical capacity. The improvement of the charge-discharge characteristics of zirconium alloys after mechanical activation is explained by the fine distribution of nickel in the composite material and by the formation of the interface leading to the appearance of a more homogeneous surface film and, hence, to the creation of a quasihomogeneous layer on the electrode-electrolyte interface.
