The schooner Effie M. Morrissey (later the Er-nestina-Morrissey) was built in 1894 at the James & Tarr Shipyard in Essex, Mass., for the Gloucester fishing fleet. After 11 years as a highline banks fisherman the Morrissey made numerous Arctic voyagesand then took part in the Cape Verde trans-Atlantic packet trade, and was the last vessel to carry immigrants to the United States under sail in the 1950s.
