Despite a misty rain and cloudy skies damping the 13th annual Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Rendezvous in Crisfield, Md., a good crowd of people came out to visit the 14 buy boats docked in front of the J. Millard Tawes Historical Museum on July 29.Chesapeake buy boats got their name from their use as a floating platform for buying fish, crabs and oysters from watermen. Buy boats cruised to local fishing grounds and anchored until the end of the day, when watermen picked the boat most likely to give them the most money for their catch. Once off-loaded, the watermen were paid on the spot.
