This year saw innovations across the board, from industry giants pushing the envelope on power and efficiency to fishermen using their expertise to create application-specific innovations. New engines by the folks who have been doing it forever — Cummins and John Deere — headlined the year, but so did inventions like the Trapmaster, a tracking system for trap and longline fisheries, developed by an Oregon crabber. As usual, there were steps forward on the technology front, with Furuno adding more features in still smaller packages and Glomex working to increase connectivity on the water. The hope is that it all adds up to a safer, more efficient and comfortable life on the water.
