In a move that could hamstring one of the US' biggest LNG export competitors, Australia's east coast gas producers have been warned of "heavy-handed political intervention over the next year" to ensure the country isn't short of domestic gas supplies. Graeme Bethune, CEO of Perth-based consultancy EnergyQuest, said Resources Minister Matt Canavan began stepping up political pressure on producers last month, summoning Santos, Origin and Royal Dutch Shell to Canberra for upcoming talks on domestic energy supply. He warned that he reserved his right to trigger the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism (ADGSM) next year.
