Study Cites Vast Potential of Turning Trash, Manure to Renewable Gas

Every year, the US generates millions of tons of food scraps and other organic wastes, including dairy cow and hog manure, that makes its way to landfills or disposal sites where it decomposes. "But this trash doesn't have to be wasted," Rebecca Gasper said in a recent blog posting. Gasper is the lead author of a working paper just released by the World Resources Institute (WRI) about taking this waste and turning it into renewable natural gas (RNG) which is in turn processed into a transportation fuel (NGW Mar. 12' 18).
