'Super Lateral' Lengths Might Be Topping Out in Appalachia, E&Ps Say

So-called 'super laterals' in Appalachia may be reaching their limit at around 20,000 feet - or about 3.8 miles - but it's debatable whether drillers are hitting a technical barrier or simply can't handle the flood of gas such a well can produce. Either way, the region's three largest E&Ps expect to see higher prices for that increased production as pipeline takeaway capacity continues to grow.
