BP Sees Artificial Intelligence as Key to Sustaining Role of Gas, Oil

Executives with supermajor BP believe advanced digital tools such as artificial intelligence can help secure a significant long-term role for oil and gas in the global energy mix-and the company is investing in that future. In its latest Technology Outlook, the UK producer says the Paris climate accord's goal of limiting the increase in global temperatures to less than 2°C is feasible but will require governments to adopt policies that put a price on carbon. "Our view... is that... there is a very significant demand for oil and gas running out to 2050 and beyond, even under the scenario that the world achieves two degrees," BP's technology chief, David Eyton, told reporters last week. "We will be part of that as well as a growing set of alternative sources and uses of energy."
