LNG-Powered Florida Railroad Teams Up With Accident First Responders

Talk of the milestones for using LNG as a transportation fuel inevitably are centered around infrastructure and supply. But one key tracking point is developing plans to ensure first responders are prepared in the event of an accident. "While the use of LNG isn't new and has a well documented safety record, this new use of the fuel source does present some challenges for all us from a first responder standpoint and as a public safety protection component," Volusia County, Florida, Fire Rescue Fire Chief Jeff B. Smith told Natural Gas Week. "It is important to keep aware and educated regarding the fuel, process for energy production (combustion), container, safety features, and dangers in order to correctly and safely handle emergency related to this source of energy."
