Gas-Fired Microturbines Help Light Up Storm-Ravaged Caribbean islands

As power is gradually restored to Caribbean islands devastated by this summer's hurricanes, a California company is helping keep the lights on in one home and business at a time. Last week, a hotel in Jamaica hard-hit by Hurricane Maria inked a deal with Capstone Turbine for two of its propane-powered C200 microturbines. Thermal energy generated by the 200-killowatt combined heat and power devices will be converted for use by the building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The C200s can be paired to create what is effectively a small-scale power plant.
