NGLs Production Forecast Provides Boost to Appalachian Petchem Hub

Proponents of a major petrochemical complex in the Ohio-West Virginia-Pennsylvania crescent got some powerful ammunition last week with a study showing the region's natural gas liquids(NGLs)production will double between now and 2040.IHS Markit forecasts that total gas output from the Marcel-lus and Utica Shales will grow from 28 billion cubic feet per day in 2018 to 51 Bcf/d in 2040,supplying 45% of domestic gas production compared with 31% today.Because that gas is rich in NGLs such as ethane,propane and butane-the primary feedstocks for petchem-based products-the study sees regional NGLs production surging from 0.6 million barrels per day to 1.17 million b/d over the same period.
