The numbers continue to add up against the proposed $43 billion Alaska LNG and pipeline project. With the state government staring a $1.6 billion budget shortfall in the face,the likelihood of state financial backing-already tenuous-looks increasingly narrow.And with no major equity commitments from the private sector,including the three supermajors sitting on trillions of cubic feet of untapped North Slope gas,observers say it's hard to see how the long-discussed megaproject moves forward. The final answer could come as soon as next month,when the Alaska Gasline Development Corp.(AGDC)reports back to Gov.Michael Dunleavy on the results of its 60-day fiscal examination.
