Bakken E&Ps Spending Millions on Gas Pipelines,Plants to Curb Flaring

As producers in North Dakota continue to struggle to meet the state's gas-capture targets,they are allocating more capital to building out their own gas-gathering and processing infrastructure and showing an ability to monetize those midstream assets down the road.Whiting Petroleum,the second-biggest Bakken Shale oil and gas producer,plans to devote around $118 million,or some 14% of its 2019 budget,to infrastructure and land projects.Most of the cash will go toward finishing an expansion of Whiting's Ray gas plant in Williams County,which will have a capacity of about 25 million cubic feet per day.Other top Bakken Shale producers such as Oasis Petroleum and Hess also have substantial midstream assets in North Dakota that primarily serve the needs of their parent companies.Hess’midstream unit recently agreed to pay Summit Midstream up to $100 million to acquire gathering assets associated with its Tioga system in Williams County.
