Seattle has broken ranks from a growing list of progressive cities on the West Coast that have banned or clamped down on the use of natural gas in new housing construction,with the mayor saying such a move is unwarranted.Last week,after signing into law a 24c per gallon tax on heating oil,Mayor Jenny Durkan asked whether it was”the time to make it more expensive to build low-income housing and affordable housing in the city of Seattle? And are there ways we can phase it in or do other things?”Durkan added that while the city is moving toward a carbon-free economy,government can’t do so at the expense of its citizens.
