Probing Nanoscale Dynamics in Energy Related Materials: Reports from Joint QENS and WINS 2016

In the first week of September, Helmholtz Centre Berlin hosted two international neutron scattering events, the 9~(th) Quasi elastic Neutron Scattering conference (September 5-8, 2016) and the 7~(th) Workshop on Inelastic Spectrometers (September 8-9,2016). A neutron summer school "Neutron Scattering Applications to Hydrogen Storage Materials" was organized from August 22-31, 2016 as a satellite event. While the Quasielastic Neutron scattering conference (QENS 2016) was dedicated to the scientific applications, the Workshop on Inelastic Spectrometers WINS 2016 allowed to explore the instrumental aspects. The blockwise organization of QENS and WINS offered scientists the flexibility to participate in both events or in only one of them. 108 participants from universities, research laboratories and industry from all over the world took part in QENS and WINS, with a notably high number of new faces. More than 20 applications have been received for the participation at the summer school.
