USING SPENT SUBSTRATE FROM MUSHROOM CULTIVATION FOR METHANISATION PROCESS

The spent Shiitake mushroom substrate, although a limited literature being published so far, has a considerable potential to be re-used in bioremediation, crop production and pest management, animal husbandry, alternative farming, industrial processes or bio-products. The recycling of this organic waste material as a fuel is a profitable way for getting rid of the environmental contamination, and in the same time for producing useful chemicals. In this sense, the best utilisation of the spent substrate of this kind of mushroom would be in agricultural and horticultural industries as a soil amendment, either directly or after composting. The spent Shiitake mushroom substrate has the good future as a value for both environmental reclamation and industrial sectors for the treatment methodology for the methanisation through destroying the organic wastes. Almost all cited authors recommend preliminarily to start doing the preparation of the organic materials passing by the preliminary hydrolysis process, in order to break down the bigger molecules to the smaller ones, and then following with the degradation kinetics, either biochemically, or thermo-chemically. Our experiments have been performed in anaerobic conditions using the bench bioreactor, running at two different temperature regimes at 37 and 70 degrees C. Results of our tests have been optimistic, reaching a good conversion rate of methanation process.
