Coccidiosis remains one of the most important diseases in poultry, causing large economic losses in the poultry industry. It is a parasitic disease of the intestinal tract caused by Eimeria spp. This species-specific protozoan (one-celled organism) has a direct lifecycle, meaning it doesn't need an intermediate host for development. The reproductive potential is very high and the lifecycle is short, two reasons why coccidiosis is a continuous and serious threat to the birds and should be monitored closely.
