SRY-positive XY-ovotesticular disorder of sexual development (XY-OT-DSD) of a Yorkshire Terrier

In this case report, a XY disorder of sexual development in a six-month-old Yorkshire Terrier with female phenotype and enlarged clitoris is described. Both the clinical and laboratory examination led to the suspicion of intra-abdominal testes being present. A gonadohysterectomy was performed during the subsequent laparotomy. In addition, the enlarged clitoris was surgically corrected. Histopathological examination of the removed tissues showed that the gonads were ovotestes. Also a uterus, epididymis and vas deferens were found to be present. The genetic examination determined a XY karyotype with a positive SRY PCR, meaning that the case can be classified as a XY-ovotesticular disorder of sexual development (XY-OT-DSD). This report summarises and discusses the clinical examination and surgical treatment as well as the results of the histopathological and genetic examinations.
