The latest edition of the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo was held over the weekend of 24th and 25th August at The Just Sports & Fitness Centre,Redbank.A perfect Queensland weekend was presented to all those who travelled long distances to be part of the event.Retailers,clubs,competition competitors and visitors,again came from not just locally,but from all around Queensland,and Interstate;and we thank them for their continued support of our show.Across the weekend we had just over 1700 visitors,which is pretty much our average.It will be up to the hard-working committee to try and increase these figures at future events.The Queensland Scale Modelling Championship,the centrepiece of our show,was once again well supported with 465 entries on our tables;this bettering last year by ONE.All but one of our categories were filled,with 16 Junior entrants placing models in this year.Many well know modellers took home awards,and all prize winners can now be found on our webpage.Model Art Australia have been a longtime supporter of our show,and each year sponsor the Best Australian Model;this year it went to Graham McNamara with his beautifully finished’Australian Light Horseman'.People's Choice,overwhelmingly,went to Dave Gibbs with his RAAF 11 Squadron maintenance hangar;built into a coffee table.Dave advised his motivation for this diorama came from working in that environment for 16 years;the diorama took him 14 years to complete! Modeller of the Show went to Trent Dennison,who backed up his win from last year,with another fine hall of trophies;5 Gold,2 Silver,and 4 Bronze.Model of Show this year was the 1/4 scale’Ork Impaler’by Ashley Hoath;a model that needed to been seen up close to fully appreciate it.Finally,the’John Stockley Memorial Award’for Best Club Display went to The St.Edmund's Old Boys Model Club'.This fine display was the creation of just three members;was totally deserved,and in my opinion,well overdue.So that was 20191 Planning has already been underway for some time for next year's show;locked in for the weekend of 22nd & 23rd August 2020,it is our 25th Anniversary.We're hoping it will be our biggest yet!
