PART 2: A Boiler Feed Pump

The Cylinder: Let's start machining the cylinder. This is a tricky little beast. It has the valve ports for two valves and a mass of drillings which create steam passages. In photo 13, the cylinder is shown transparent and the steam ways resulting from the drillings are shown in red. Figures 1 to 3 give details of the cylinder. Obviously, care must be taken to ensure that the holes are accurately positioned and of the correct depth so they meet where they are intended to! It's very satisfying, after drilling from one side of the casting to the other, to feel the drill break through just where it's supposed to!
