PART 1 Focas Oil Pump

This article is number three in the series of occasional articles on building my Focas I/C engine. It concerns the design and manufacture of the oil pump shown in the computer-generated model (photo 1)which provides the oil supply to the camshafts. There have been many different designs of oil pump produced over the years but, after weighing up the pro's and con's, I decided to go for a gear system which is driven by the crankshaft through a worm drive and incorporates a pressure release valve, shown above the pump in photo 1.
