I am a semi-retired farmer and grazier from central Queensland and enjoy living on the land with wide open spaces. I also enjoy old cars and have just finished restoring a 1968 Mustang Shelby convertible (photo 1). In 2015 I made a working scale model beam engine (photo 2) from wood that was featured in Model Engineer no. 4523 (December 2015) along with some Caterpillar scale models also made from wood. One of the most exciting moments in my life was when I got the beam engine to run on compressed air. To create a working model from a few small pieces of wood and then watch it operate for the first time was quite amazing. This inspired me to search the internet and look for another working model that I could make.
