Transformed red mud for better mining waste management

Alkaline bauxite refining residue, red mud, can be mixed with acid metal mining waste, to neutralize and immobilize heavy metals. The controlled transformation of the red mud waste into a useful by-product, helps in making soil that blends well into the natural environment, with concentrations of bio-available hazardous compounds for ever remaining below dangerous levels.
