Arabica futures ended the period under review with slight losses even though prices recovered from a three-week low. The December arabica coffee contract settled down 4.000 at 120.050 per lb, but this was significantly above a three-week low at 111.350/lb hit on October 31. March shed 3.800 to 121.050/lb. The recovery from the three-week low was facilitated by speculative short covering as well as a strengthening Brazilian currency, which increases the price in US dollar terms at which Brazilian producers are ready to sell. The real jumped to its highest in 5-1/2 months after Brazil elected right-wing market favourite Jair Bolsonaro as President on October 28.
