Rail link project causes mineral extraction proposal to be brought forward

Buckinghamshire County Council has approved a proposal to extract two million tonnes of sand and gravel from a site near Slough, subject to there being no conflict with the proposed western rail link to Heathrow airport (WRLH). The 36-hectare site had no history of mineral extraction and comprised agricultural land, including "best and most versatile" grades. Cemex had put forward the site to be allocated in the emerging development plan which was scheduled for adoption in spring 2019.
