Reflections from the Ekornes Stressless, aka the overstuffed chair

One of the traditional tasks of the outgoing chair of the Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) of SME is to write a "Fine Grind" article near the end of his or her term. My term is nearly done and, not having access to an overstuffed chair (see ME, Feb. 2018, p. 49), I prefer to write mine from a Stressless perspective. In reality, stress-less needs an antonym to describe the yearly adventures of the MPD committee members, a remarkable team. Looking back on the year, the list of MPD responsibilities and ongoing activities is daunting, although at the time it can best be described as fun - fun because of the truly great committee members, fun because of success in raising money for scholarships, fun in the planning and execution of a great technical program for the SME Annual Conference & Expo, fun because we interact with other mineral processing societies around the world, fun because of the great support of SME staff, and fun because we are part of the mining and mineral industry that plays such an important role for the citizens of the world.
