On December 3, 2019, following a two-year period of reactivation activities, Rio'Grande Resources Corporation (RGR) notified the New Mexico Mining and Minerals Division (MMD) of its intention to commence closure/closeout plan activities at RGR's Mt. Taylor Mine site. RGR received its permit, Permit Revision 13 -2, on December 27,2017, which allowed Mt. Taylor to return to "active" status after being on "standby" status since 1999, in accordance with MMD's part 5 and part 7 regulations, respectively. See N.M. Code R. §§ 19.10.5, .7. Permit Revision 13-2 also included provisions invoked by RGR allowing it to pursue closure/closeout plan activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
