Nanodynamics makes golf balls, carbon nanotubes, nanomaterials

A patent covering sol-gel processing in the production of a variety of end products comprised of carbon nanotubes has been awarded to NanoDynamics, Buffalo, N.Y. Carbon nanotubes are infinitesimal fibers of pure carbon that are said to conduct electricity better than copper and to transmit heat better than diamond. Other attempts to process the nanotubes have had problems with solubility, thus making it difficult to disperse them homogeneously. Researchers think that sol-gel processing can overcome these difficulties by processing the nanotubes while the gel is still in a liquid state, making them easier to manipulate into ordered arrays.
