摘要

Thymbra spicata L. from Labiaceae family is perennial plant that prefers dry sunny hillsides and high dry meadows. It bears beautiful purple white flowers and bloom from June to August. The essential oils found in different parts of Thymbra spicata make it an important antibacterial and antioxidant natural source. It is used in food industry as spice and for treatment of asthma and bronchitis in the traditional system. Micropropagation can help to produce large number of true to type plants in shortperiod of time. The study reports micropropagation from cotyledon node explants obtained from in vitro grown plants. These were cultured on MS medium containing 0.05 mg/l TDZ (Thidiazuron), 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.12 mg/l NAA (a naphthalene acetic acid). Developing shoots were rooted on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l IB A (Indole-3-butyric acid). All plants were acclimatised in the greenhouse.
