Today's challenges for automobile industry include volatile markets, intensifying emissions concerns, changing product cycles, increasing complexity, and need of flexibility in production. There is an increasing trend of reducing the weight of vehicles by using various different alloys and composites. In order to develop a more integrated design, there is need for efficient multimaterial joining techniques.
