This 225-page reference source explains in detail how small solid particles carried in gas or liquid fluids can cause significant materials degradation. It reflects the profound advances that have taken place since the 1975 "energy crisis." Operating conditions in energy production and utilization systems have become more severe in recent years due to a number of factors. Among them are poorer quality fuels, more stringent exhaust emissions controls, and also more efficient use of fuels. The end result has been an enormous increase in the amount of materials wastage caused by erosion type mechanisms.
