World Wind Associations Report That Wind-Power Capacity Saw Record In 2002

The two largest of the global wind energy associations report this month that worldwide wind-generating capacity experienced record growth in 2002. A 28 percent year-on-year increase was achieved, according to figures released March 10 by associations in Europe and North America. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) jointly reported that total global wind-energy generating capacity reached 31,128 megawatts at the end of 2002. This resulted from a record-high 6,868 megawatts of new wind turbine capacity installed during the year.
