Pentagon Protected by Spray-On Polymer to Combat Threat of Terrorist Attack

Application of an elastomeric polymer, much like spray-on bedliners, was installed last year at the Pentagon during the Renovation, or PenRen, according to Scott Jewett, GM, Line-X Franchise Development Corporation (LFDC). The polymer is designed to contain fragmentation and prevent pieces of the structure from becoming airborne projectiles in the event of an explosion, says Jewett. "The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have evaluated the product for over two years and approved its application to a variety of structures for protection from the effects of bomb blasts," he added.
