When she tried to join the local plumbers' union in 1994, Judaline Cassidy said, she was told to "go home and do the dishes." She persisted. Cassidy went on to become the first woman elected to the Examining Board of Plumbers Local 1 of New York City. Cassidy, a tradeswoman and the founder and director of "Tools and Tiaras," talked about that experience, her career, and forging a path for women in the plumbing industry at a Women in Energy event in New York City. Tools & Tiaras, an organization based in New York City, encourages girls to pursue careers in the mechanical, industrial, technical, trades. Cassidy also talked about how she is helping ambitious and determined women and girls by introducing them to the construction field through monthly workshops and a summer camp.
