Energy Observer sets off on 2020 tour, with Toyota fuel cell system

On 3 March Energy Observer, the first vessel powered entirely by renewable energies and hydrogen, set off from Saint Malo in northern France on the latest stage in her four-year, round-the-world voyage, which in 2020 involves visiting Tokyo during the Summer Olympics before heading for California. The vessel now has a new hydrogen PEM fuel cell system specially developed by its long-time partner Toyota [see also page 8], as the first maritime application of the fuel cell used in the Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle.
