Coalition of Energy Industry Associations Oppose Federal Action to Save Power Plants

Calling themselves an 'unusual coalition' of energy industry associations, including the American Petroleum Institute, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, and Natural Gas Supply Association, among others, the group issued a white paper May 8, opposing federal subsidization of uneconomic power plants. The coalition noted that the Department of Energy is considering taking action on a request by FirstEnergy Solutions to provide long-term subsidies to aging and of uneconomic power plants under the DOE’s emergency powers in Federal Power Act section 202(c). The white paper includes an analysis of the FPA and was sent to the DOE.
