On September 9, fifteen state attorneys general filed suit against the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management in the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, seeking declaratory and injunctive relief that the agency unlawfully authorized the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program, which opens the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas exploration and development based on what the AGs allege is an inadequate environmental review and an unlawful Record of Decision.
