Fight on Enbridge Line 3 Project Returns to Minnesota PUC After Court Ruling

The challenges for Enbridge’s Line 3 oil pipeline replacement project will move back to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) now that the state Supreme Court declined to take up challenges to the environmental review of the project. Enbridge and the American Petroleum Institute (API) issued statements that they are pleased with the Minnesota Supreme Court’s September 17 ruling. The brief decision declined to review the opinion of the Minnesota Court of Appeals, which in June sent the case back to the PUC because a final environmental impact statement (EIS) failed to address the potential impact of an oil spill in the Lake Superior watershed.
