Patients with diabetic Charcot neuroarthopathy are at high risk for osteomyelitis. While both diseases have a high mortality rate, osteomyelitis is the more serious and requires very aggressive treatment. If the patient requires an amputation, the area of infected tissue must be correctly identified.
