OPTICAL SHEET COUNTING FOR THE CARTON INDUSTRY

In 2014,the FFI(German Folding Carton Association)launched its new technical guidelines called’Quality Characteristics of Cartonboard'.These guidelines have been compiled in a joint effort together with the VMK(the cartonboard sector of the German Paper and Pulp Association VDP).The main reason for publishing a reworked version of these guidelines was to include an important paragraph for”counted sheets as the standard unit in business transactions between the folding carton industry and the board industry",as Christian Schiffers of the FFI called it in his press release of 17th July 2014.He further explained,”The principle of ordering nominal amounts of board and invoicing the actual weight of board delivered that dominated the industry for decades is now being replaced by the ordering,delivery and also-to all intents and purposes-invoicing of a specific number of cartonboard sheets.In making this change,the folding carton manufacturers and their suppliers,the board mills,are responding to a market need-it is the customers of the folding carton industry who have been requesting the delivery of a precise number of folding cartons to an increasing extent when under delivery tolerances have been exceeded.”
