Extract of the Minutes of the Zonal Conference for Assessment of Requirement of Fertilizers for Rabi 2019-20

The Zonal Conference for assessment of requirement of fertilizers for Rabi 2019-20 season was held under the Chairpersonship of Joint Secretary(INM),Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare,New Delhi on 11th September,2019 for South,West,North,East and North Eastern Zones.At the outset,the Joint Secretary(INM),DAC&FW and Chairperson welcomed all the participants.Details of the deliberation are given as under:-It was briefed to all the participants that soil organic carbon in the country is depleting and there is a need to promote the use of the organic fertilizer namely farm yard manure,vermi compost,Phosphate Rich Organic Manure,Bio-enriched organic manure,City Compost etc.The states were requested to promote the use of city compost and bio fertilizers as the organic fertilisers not only provide the NPK nutrients but also the organic carbon which improves the physical as well as biological character of the soil.It was also mentioned that there is a need to reduce the consumption of chemical fertilisers and the same is to be replaced by the organic fertilisers.The chairperson enquired from the state about the use of Urea Briquettee.It was explained that the prilled urea in a compression machine is converted into the briquette.It is placed deep into the soil and has 20% higher efficiency than normal urea.Urea Briquettee is mainly used in rice cultivation and is used in Bangladesh at large scale.In India,the main problem is non availability of the applicator.On experimental basis the then TATA Chemicals had provided the Urea briquette to the farmers.Further,it was informed that if its applicator is available then the same would be promoted for rice cultivation.State Governments were advised to arrange the applicator at the custom hiring centre.
