There have been record pull-off adhesion results with the new Elcometer 510 automatic pull-off adhesion gauge. When a coating is applied outside the paint manufacturer's specifications, in the wrong climatic conditions, or to a poorly prepared surface, there is a much greater chance that the coating will blister, delaminate or not stick to the substrate - leading to costly rework. This is why testing the adhesion of a coating is critical. To determine how well coatings have bonded to the substrate, adhesion testers are used. Adhesion testing may be performed for quality control purposes, but is more typically undertaken to meet both industry standards and customer specifications.
