I recently read with interest details of the final farewell for the last Qantas 747 flight from Australia. VH-OEJ was rightly celebrated as the end of an era for Australian aviation as it departed Sydney on a flight through LAX to what will be its final resting place in the Mojave desert.This particular example of the monster four-engine 747 was 17 years-old. VH-OEJ was painted in "Wunala Dreaming" livery from its delivery in 2003 to a repaint in 2011.The departure of the large 747's from the Qantas fleet was always planned for 2020. It had been flagged in 2018 and while it may have slightly expedited these plans, the COVID-19 pandemic would certainly have vindicated the decision.
