SE Asia forges ahead while India turns to exports

At the South East Asia Iron and SteelInstitute (SEASI) conference held inSingapore in May, the body forecast theregion’s steel demand would breach the 90million metric ton mark by 2019, up from80 million mt this year. China’s trajectoryis heading in the opposite direction and ispredicted by the country’s steel officials tofall to 595 million mt by 2020 from around660 million mt in 2017.
