Promotion of agroforestry to meet the fodder and fuelwood needs of rural and urban communities

摘要

An attempt has been made in the present paper to under-line the fuel wood and the fodder shortage in India, along with the availability of land resources, particularly degraded land. Productivity potential of different tree species for fuel-wood andfodder has been discussed, with the help of data available from different sources. Greater emphasis has been given to utilize degraded lands for development of such agroforestry systems as are in harmony with the aspirations and requirements of the localpeople. Suitable leguminous and non leguminous trees and shrubs have been listed for different agroclimatic zones for ready reference, having fuel wood and fodder values.
