There is a great benefit to the repurposing of drugs, that is, the process of determining whether drugs that have already been evaluated—and shown to be safe—have purposes other than those originally intended. The benefit is especially great when time is of the essence—in the middle of a pandemic, for instance. This is the motivation behind a team of scientists at Scripps Research that is working to find an effective antiviral drug against SARS-CoV-2. Calibr, the drug development division of Scripps Research, is leveraging a unique resource—the ReFRAME drug collection.
